PORTLAND - Mainers for Medical Rights announced today that the group has published a new guide to help patients and medical professionals better understand Maine's new medical marijuana law.
Maine voters overwhelmingly approved the new law last November 2nd by a 61%-39% margin. The law went into effect on December 22, 1999 - which was 30-days after Governor Angus King signed the election's official proclamation.
A new toll-free phone line has been established for Mainers who would like a free copy of the new guide - 1-800-846-1039.
The guide has just been mailed to 3,000 Maine physicians. Mainers for Medical Rights will make quantities of the guide available for clinics, doctors' offices and support groups.
"We've received calls from many patients and doctors looking for guidance on how to comply with the new law. We hope that our guide will aid in a smooth implementation process," said Elizabeth Beane, spokeswoman for the group that spearheaded last November's medical marijuana referendum.
The medical marijuana guide includes a summary of the new law, frequently asked questions, a sample form for medical professionals to provide to their patients and the complete text of the Maine Medical Marijuana Act.
In addition to calling the toll-free line, the guide can also be ordered at Mainers for Medical Rights website - www.mainers.org
