If approved by voters, the Maine Medical Marijuana Act will:

  • Increase treatment options for seriously or terminally ill patients.
  • Protect physicians from criminal and professional sanctions if they recommend medical marijuana to a patient
  • Provide patients with a legal defense if they are arrested for using medical marijuana recommended by a physician

Since 1996, voters in seven states have strongly supported similar medical marijuana initiatives. As the only state with a 1999 referendum, Mainers have the opportunity to build on the growing momentum for a national policy to allow medical marijuana use by patients with debilitating medical conditions.
