NEW RADIO AD FEATURING SHERIFF

Sheriff Mark Dion Urges Yes Vote On Medical Marijuana
|
| |
PORTLAND - In a new radio ad Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion urges Maine voters to vote yes on Question 2, the medical marijuana initiative.
The 60-second spot began airing today on radio stations all over Maine. The ad can also be heard on the internet by visiting Mainers for Medical Rights website - www.mainers.org
Dion was elected Sheriff of Cumberland County in 1998. Dion previously was Deputy Chief of the Portland Police Department where he served for over 20 years. He is credited with implementing community policing in Portland and taking the lead in combating hate crimes. In 1992, he was honored as one of the top 10 police officers in the country.
Here is the complete text of the Sheriff Dion ad:
Sheriff Mark Dion: Hello. This is Mark Dion, Sheriff of Cumberland County.
Many voters here in Maine are wondering where law enforcement officers stand on Question 2, the medical marijuana initiative.
Well, I'm one law enforcement officer who is voting "Yes" on medical marijuana. People who are gravely ill should be able to use any medicine that reduces their pain and suffering.
Question 2 is a good first step. Once it passes, those of us in law enforcement will be working with our state legislature to set up a safe and effective system that guarantees that only patients who need it will have access to medical marijuana. The sponsors of Question 2 have assured me that they will cooperate.
Like I said, Question 2 is a good beginning. After all, this is a public health issue.
So please, join me, Sheriff Mark Dion, and vote "yes" on Question 2.
