Yes on #2 TV Ads Begin Airing In Maine

October 26 - Mainers for Medical Rights began airing two 30-second TV ads today on all Maine commercial television stations. The text of the two ads follows:

TV Ad #1 "Doctor"

Dr. Richard Baldwin on camera
(Super: "Richard Baldwin, MD, South Gardiner, ME")

If you're undergoing cancer chemotherapy,
severe nausea and vomiting are common side effects.
And they often fail to respond to available medications.
Fortunately, there is a medicine that can help.
It's marijuana.
Question 2 allows dying and suffering patients to use small amounts of marijuana.
Non-medical uses remain illegal.
Morphine helps. Marijuana helps.
Vote Yes on 2.
We want to be able to offer you every medicine that helps.

(Super: "Vote Yes on 2" and disclaimer "Paid for and authorized by Mainers for Medical Rights, 44 Exchange Street, Portland, ME 04101. A copy of our report is available from and may be viewed at the office of the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices.")

TV Ad #2 "Nurse"

Elly Cary on camera
(Super: "Elly Cary, RN, BSN, Harpswell")

I've been a registered nurse for 35 years.
My patients are often terminally ill, in the very last stages of cancer.
Marijuana could ease the suffering of some of them.
I know it works. But today it's against the law.
Question 2 allows the very ill to use marijuana.
It remains illegal for everyone else.
Morphine works. Marijuana works.
Heaven forbid, someday someone you love may need it.
